How to Use Annual Goals
Your complete guide to creating, tracking, and achieving your most important goals for the year

What Are Annual Goals?

Annual goals are your big-picture objectives for the year—the milestones that will make this year a success. You Win Planner allows you to create up to 10 annual goals, each organized by life area (Health, Career, Financial, Relationships, Personal Growth, Spiritual, or Fun & Recreation).

Each goal follows the SMART framework (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) to ensure you have clarity and direction throughout the year.

Getting Started

When you navigate to Annual Goals from the sidebar, you'll see:

  • Goal Counter: Shows how many goals you've created
  • Filter Dropdown: Filter goals by life area
  • New Goal Button: Create a new goal
  • Goal Cards: Each goal displayed with progress and actions

Creating Your First Goal

  1. Click "+ New Goal" in the top right
  2. Fill out the form:
    • Goal Title (e.g., "Launch my side business")
    • Life Area (Health, Career, etc.)
    • Winning Description (what success looks like)
    • Target Value & Unit (optional, e.g., "26.2 miles")
    • Completion Date
    • Why It Matters (your motivation)
    • Reward (how you'll celebrate)
    • First Actions (2-3 immediate steps)
  3. Click "Create Goal" to save

Tracking Progress

Click "View Details" on any goal to:

  • Update your progress (0-100% slider)
  • Add progress notes and reflections
  • Review your action plan
  • See your timeline and milestones
  • Share your goal with accountability partners

Pro Tip: Update your progress weekly for best results. Be honest—progress isn't always linear!

Best Practices

  • Start with 3-5 goals (not all 10 at once)
  • Make them SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound)
  • Review weekly to stay on track
  • Celebrate milestones at 25%, 50%, 75% completion
  • Be flexible - adjust goals as you learn and grow

Next Steps

  1. Create your first 3-5 annual goals
  2. Set up your Quarterly Plan to break goals into 90-day milestones
  3. Review your goals weekly from the Dashboard
  4. Update progress regularly to stay motivated
